Acrylic Resist Etching 2:1 Classes
Various Saturdays between 10am – 4pm and on the following 2025 dates:
- 12th July: 10AM – 4PM
- 19th July: 10AM – 4PM
- 26th July: 10AM – 4PM

These bespoke sessions with just two places for each session gives you the time and space to develop your etching techniques and are suitable for those wanting to learn about ARE (acrylic resist etching) whether you are a beginner or a more advanced printmaker.
ARE etching was first developed in the 1980’s by a number of printmakers such as Cedric Green, Nik Semenoff, Robert Adams and Carol Roberston, Mark Graver, Andrew Baldwin who were all seeking alternatives to using solvents, toxic grounds and noxious acid baths to be a safer way of using this versatile method of printmaking. Furthermore, these innovative approaches took etching beyond what could be achieved with traditional methods and has made etching more accessible to people wishing to set up their own home studios.
You will be able to select between learning how to make drypoints, hardline, aquatints, spit bites, open bite, creating textures, sugarlifts, mixing mordants, inking plates and be given guidance on how to realise your own way of working through etching methods. Booking a place will require you to answer a few short questions aimed at helping you to get the most out of your class.
