Cardiff Print Workshop
Cardiff Print Workshop is an open access printmaking workshop run by artists, for artists.
We at CPW want Artists/ Printmakers to develop their own technical skills and artistic practices whilst also exhibiting and promoting their work as part of the group. CPW is a valuable resource for artists and graduates who otherwise may be unable to continue printmaking.
Cardiff Print Workshop was first set up with ‘AADW’ (Artists and Designers in Wales) at its original site on Tyndall Street, Cardiff Bay, where it stayed until 1990. Due to the Cardiff Bay Development Project however the workshop was forced to move to the Howardian Adult Education Centre in 1991 where it has been ever since. It was then that the printmaking classes were started and run by members. In December 2011 CPW expanded and began renting an additional space from Chapter Arts Centre in Market House. Here we continue to run classes and printmaking masterclasses and are able to offer an exhibition space for our members to showcase their work.
Unfortunately the Howardian Centre is now being redeveloped and we will need to move out. Cardiff Print Workshop will, as of July 2018, be based solely at Market House, Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, Cardiff. We will inevitably have to down size but are committed to retaining as many of our facilities as possible within this smaller space. On the plus side we are proud to be an integral part of Chapter Arts Centre’s forthcoming development of a Cultural Quarter which should see installed in brand new premises sometime within the next few years. Until then much of our equipment and in particular our stone lithography facility will be in storage.
