Finding Form in the Landscape – exploring the texture of the land

Drawing inspiration from the landscape, discover how to use printmaking techniques to produce beautiful and unexpected results. This course will explore the art of Collograph and show how to create expressive and painterly effects, rich in pattern and texture. It will also demonstrate Mono-type and show how printing in layers and from natural objects can lend subtlety and depth to the work.

Lino-cut printmaking

Tuesdays 7 – 9pm

17th May – 14th June

5 week course

The class will look at how linocut is used to create striking graphic effects, taking inspiration from some of the great exponents of the art. We will explore the range of tools and different marks made by each and learn how to print by hand and use the presses in the workshop. We will also learn the art of reduction cutting to produce multi coloured prints.

Photopolymer Intaglio Etching

Friday 3rd June

10am – 4pm

1 Day Course

This course is intended for anyone with a passion for printmaking and photography, areas of image making that have long over lapped and complemented each other. A basic introduction to photo-etching using photopolymer intaglio techniques. This workshop will cover all the elements needed to produce a successful print using photopolymer plates.

Demonstrations will include preparing the artwork/transparency, exposing the plates to U.V. light, developing and printing.

Reduction Lino

Saturday 23rd / 30th July

10am – 4pm

2 Day Course

This 2 day course will explore the art of lino-cut and demonstrate how to plan and print in multiple colours from the same block. The technique of reduction lino-cut relies on exact registration as each new cut is printed on to the print edition.

open access printmaking

Fee: £20 per session or £40 for the day (10% off for CPW members)

The Open Access Sessions are for printmakers to use the print facilities at Cardiff Print Workshop. They are times when the workshop will be staffed by an experienced printmaker to allow anyone with previous printmaking experience or who has completed a printmaking class at CPW to be able to continue to use the workshop for their own projects.

CPW have the facilities for:

  • Etching copper, zinc or aluminium.
  • Lino and wood cut
  • Cyanotype
  • Photo intaglio
  • Collograph
  • Mono-type
  • Open Access Sessions are restricted to no more that 3 participants and are by appointment only.
