Tuesdays 7 – 9pm 16th / 23rd / 30th Sept. 7th / 14th / 21st Oct.

Learn the art of linocut using the reduction method. This is the process of cutting and printing in stages from the same block to produce an edition of multi-coloured original prints. Over this 6 week course you will explore techniques for transferring images to the block, the traditional art of cutting, learning how to mix inks and use the rollers and presses at CPW.

Etching Aluminium and Zinc with Copper Sulphate

Tuesdays 1 pm – 3 pm Sept. 16th / 23rd / 30th Oct. 7th

Etching with copper sulphate is a safe form of etching that may be done from home. The course will look at the different ways that zinc and aluminium may be etched in blue copper sulphate solution – zinc being ideal for fine linier work and aluminium for rich tonal aquatints.

For people with some experience of etching who wish to explore this colourful and rewarding process.

Photo Etching Using Photopolymer

Saturday 10am – 4pm 18th Oct.

Suitable for beginners, seasoned printmakers or anyone with a passion for printmaking and photography. The course will cover the basic preparation of positives used for the U.V. Exposure of KM73 photopolymer plates, their developing and printing. The results can be a highly detailed rendition of the original drawing or photograph. Everything is provided in the cost of the course including plate, acetate positive and paper.

This course is will be an introduction to printmaking techniques practiced at Cardiff Print Workshop. In 6 weekly sessions participants will explore a range of techniques and approaches that are common to the craft of printmaking. You will learn how to use layering, masking, transfer methods and photography to create original prints and gain experience of working the presses and other facilities.
