A Guide to Printmaking at CPW
Tuesdays 7 -9pm 21st/28th April / 5rd/12th /19th /26th May 2026
This course will be an introduction to printmaking techniques practiced at Cardiff Print Workshop. In 6 weekly sessions participants will explore a range of techniques and approaches that are common to the craft of printmaking. You will learn how to use layering, masking, transfer methods and photography to create original prints and gain experience of working the presses and other facilities.

Learn the art of linocut using the reduction method. This is the process of cutting and printing in stages from the same block to produce an edition of multi-coloured original prints. Over this 6 week course you will explore techniques for transferring images to the block, the traditional art of cutting, learning how to mix inks and use the rollers and presses at CPW.

Cyanotype Photography
Saturday 10am 4pm 6th June
Cyanotype is an antique photographic process distinctive for its Prussian blue monochrome prints, invented in the Victorian era. Recently there has been renewed interest in old or alternative photographic techniques and cyanotype is recognised as being one of the easiest and safest forms of these to master. This one day workshop will demonstrate how to mix and apply the chemicals to a variety of surfaces, expose objects and digital negatives, develop and tint the results.
