Michele Aitchison

Born and raised in Aberystwyth, I’ve loved art since childhood. After a long break from making art, I rediscovered my passion for creativity about ten years ago when I started printmaking in my free time. Living in France at the time, I stumbled upon a printmaking studio and was quickly captivated by the endless possibilities this medium offered. For the past seven years, I’ve been a member of Cardiff Print Workshop and, while I may not get into the studio as often as I’d like, being part of this collective motivates me to keep experimenting with printmaking whenever I can carve out the time.

I haven’t yet settled on a definitive style or a single technique, and the subjects of my prints vary widely too. These are often influenced by nature, found images, or sketches and photos taken on walks and trips away. Whenever possible I attend courses at Cardiff Print Workshop, as these always provide inspiration and open new possibilities. Attending courses also encourages me to move between printmaking techniques. Most recently I’ve been drawn to the immediacy of monoprint, but have also experimented with lino, drypoint, collagraph and etching in the past. Each technique offers something unique, and I enjoy the process of trying new things.
